A financial services company sought out Stone Temple to increase organic traffic, but they were in an ultra-competitive search space. They were presently ranking #3 for a specific high-volume search term and they were looking for guidance on how to secure the #1 position. Outranked only by a Wikipedia and a .gov site, the challenge was to develop a plan that would leapfrog the client over the higher-ranking sites to secure the #1 position.
Stone Temple performed an exhaustive audit of the site. This entailed using our proprietary STC SEOCrawl™ tool, conducting an extensive manual inspection of the site, and mining and analyzing data from Google Analytics and Google Search Console. As a result, Stone Temple made many recommendations that were implemented. Although improvements could be seen, it was not enough to take over the first position.
The next phase of the solution was to develop a multi-pronged content marketing strategy to increase the site’s authority and relevance for the target keyword. As input to the content marketing strategy, Stone Temple performed a content gap analysis of the sites pages
Stone Temple then provided topic guidance and the client utilized their real relationships with true, financial experts, some with an extensive presence on social networks and network television notoriety to leverage placement of content with high-visibility publishers. In addition, Stone Temple also facilitated the creation of high-quality, on-page content, which resulted in gaining organic links from dozens of very high-authority sites.
Within a few months of implementing the content marketing plan, the site moved from position #3 in Google’s SERPs to position #1 and has maintained that top position. This move in ranking has resulted in the client doubling their organic traffic and increasing revenue.
